Massplanner Instagram automation is no longer a product you can buy: independent outlets reported in May 2017 that Mass Planner had closed, apparently at Instagram’s request. This page sets out what could and could not be confirmed about Mass Planner as of 21 October 2026, and what to weigh up if you are looking for something similar.
We do desk research only. We never signed up for, paid for or ran Mass Planner or any tool mentioned here, and nothing was bought or tested. Everything below comes from pages we opened on 21 October 2026. Where a detail could not be confirmed, we say so instead of repeating older claims.
Quick answer: Mass Planner was an Instagram automation tool that was reported closed in mid-May 2017. Tech.co and Fstoppers both covered it within weeks, and Proxyway later described the closure as following a cease-and-desist letter from Instagram. The old domain now shows a general social media blog, not a product.
Status: shut-down (reported by three independent outlets; no official notice was reachable). Price from: not available, the product no longer sells. Safety: tools of this type break Instagram’s terms and put accounts at risk.

What Mass Planner was
Mass Planner was a social media automation tool. People searched for it mostly in connection with Instagram, where tools of this kind follow, like and comment on other accounts in the hope that those people follow back. It sat in the same group of products that we cover in our Automation & Bots category.
The facts we could confirm about the product itself are few. Tech.co, writing on 12 June 2017, described the wider group of third-party Instagram bots as tools that can comment on photos across the network and target specific hashtags to earn follow-backs. That article does not describe Mass Planner in particular. Our earlier version of this page said Mass Planner also covered Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. We could not confirm that from any page we opened, so we have removed it.
How it worked
We could not find a page from the provider that explains how Mass Planner worked, because its own pages are no longer available to read. The company’s former domain, massplanner.com, loaded on 21 October 2026 as a general blog about social media, with no product, pricing or download pages that we could find.
Our earlier text said users had to install software on a Windows computer. None of the sources we opened say how Mass Planner was delivered, so treat any detail about installation or operating system as unconfirmed.
Features
No feature list from Mass Planner could be read this session. We are not repeating the older claims about liking, commenting, scheduling or group joining as facts, because we could not match them to a page we opened. If you remember the product and want to compare it with a current tool, use that tool’s own pages and check each feature there.
Pricing
| Item | What we found (read on 21 October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Current price | None. The product is not on sale. |
| Historic price | Could not be confirmed from any page we opened, so we do not quote one. |
| Free trial or refund | Not applicable. |
What happened to Mass Planner
Three independent sources describe the end of Mass Planner. They agree on the year and the cause, and differ by a day on the date.
- Fstoppers, 13 May 2017. The article says Mass Planner was taken down “yesterday”, which points to about 12 May 2017. It ties the closure to Instagram’s crackdown on automated services and says Instagress had already been forced to close.
- Tech.co, 12 June 2017. Tech.co reports that Instagress closed on 20 April 2017 and that Mass Planner was announced to have followed suit on 13 May. It says these companies shut “apparently at the request of Instagram itself” and names Peer Boost, Instaplus and Fan Harvest among other bots that had gone in recent months. It carries no statement from Instagram.
- Proxyway, 21 September 2022. In a news piece on the closure of Jarvee, Proxyway says Massplanner closed in 2017 after a cease-and-desist letter from Instagram, and calls it Jarvee’s predecessor. It does not say whether the two products shared a team.
We could not confirm the text of the closure email that older versions of this page quoted. We did not find it on any page we opened, so it is not repeated here. We also found no public statement from Instagram about Mass Planner, and the sources above do not quote one.
We also saw a search result for an article that dates a Mass Planner crackdown to 2022. It conflicts with the 2017 reporting from outlets that wrote at the time, and we did not use it.
Safety and risks
The Mass Planner story is a useful warning about the whole category. Instagram’s terms of use say you may not create accounts or access or collect information in an automated way without Instagram’s express permission. The same terms bar soliciting or collecting other users’ login credentials, usernames and passwords. You can read both clauses in the Instagram Terms of Use, which we opened on 21 October 2026. Our pages on Social Drift, which appears to be shut down, and Bigbangram, whose site was still online on 21 October 2026, show how other bots in this category stand.
Meta’s spam policy goes further on engagement. Its Community Standards on spam list attempting to sell, buy or exchange engagement such as likes, follows and views as prohibited.
In practice, using an automation service means accepting several risks:
- Action blocks, temporary limits or a ban on your Instagram account.
- Giving a third party your login details, if the service asks for them.
- Losing the service itself, as Mass Planner users did, with little notice.
- Followers gained by mass following may be weakly engaged, which does not help an account that wants customers.
We cannot say how many Mass Planner users had accounts restricted, because none of the sources we opened give that number.
Pros and cons of this kind of tool
What people used such tools for: saving time on repetitive follow, like and comment tasks, and reaching accounts in a niche by hashtag. That is the use case Tech.co describes for third-party bots in general.
The limits: the activity is against Instagram’s terms, the service can disappear overnight, and any result depends on Instagram not noticing. A sourced list of the strengths of a closed product is not possible, so we do not claim any specific strength for Mass Planner.
Who this page is for
This page is for people who found Mass Planner through an old review, a forum thread or a search, and want to know whether it can still be used. We found no sign that it can be bought from the original provider. It is also for people who want to understand what happened before choosing a replacement.
Alternatives
We do not recommend any one replacement as the best, and we have not tested any. Which route fits depends on what you want. The options below are links to our own pages, which set out what each provider says about itself and where each one falls short.
- Roundups. Our Instagram Automation guide compares approaches, and our Instagress alternatives page covers another bot that closed in 2017.
- Growth services that act on your account. See Upleap, Nitreo and Kicksta, which our Growth Services reviews cover. Each is a growth service in the same risk category as Mass Planner, so read the safety section on each review.
- Desktop automation. Jarvee, which Proxyway calls Massplanner’s successor, is also reported closed. Our Jarvee review is kept for readers who find it in search and need the background.
If your goal is to grow without breaking Instagram’s rules, the options that stay inside them are not automation at all, such as posting consistently, working with creators and running ads through Instagram’s own tools.
FAQ
Is Mass Planner still available?
We found no working product. Fstoppers, Tech.co and Proxyway report that it closed in 2017, and massplanner.com now loads as a general social media blog.
When did Mass Planner shut down?
Sources put the announcement on 12 or 13 May 2017, depending on the outlet.
Why did Mass Planner shut down?
Tech.co says apparently at Instagram’s request. Proxyway says after a cease-and-desist letter from Instagram. Neither quotes Instagram directly.
Is Mass Planner the same as Jarvee?
Proxyway calls Massplanner Jarvee’s predecessor. It does not say whether Jarvee was a rebrand or a new product from the same team, so we do not claim either.
Is Instagram automation allowed?
Instagram’s terms prohibit automated access or collection without its permission. Using a tool of this kind risks an action block or a ban.
What should I use instead?
See the alternatives above, and weigh the risks first. We have not tested any of them.
